This blog post we are going to look at Lena's work on the Ghost Elves, a reclusive race of tree dwelling tribal elves that live in the Swamp of Souls.
They used to live in the Old Swamp but have been forced out by the growing corruption and now find them self carving out a new life in the Young Swamp, a more natural environment that sits on the fringe of the creeping misery.
We cover the Lena's conceptual development of the race in Episode 6, covering what they wear, how they live and where they live.
We follow this transition by focusing on one family that is finding their own way while working in a small tribal community. This family is made up of a stoic father who has turned his back on the past, a headstrong daughter looking to rediscover the old ways of the shamans that stayed behind in the old swamp, a son who wants to prove himself as a great croco hunter to his brooding father, a wily grandfather who straddles the line between the wisdom of the past and the new direction of the future and the long lost mother who still haunts her family in a variety of ways.
We start off getting to know the willful daughter who wants to follow in her Mothers footsteps and become a Shaman.
We start off in Episode 7 following the story arc of the daughter, who is defying her fathers wishes by journeying into the Old Swamp. Here she seeks to learn the ancient shamanistic ways of the Ghost Elves from the last remaining Shaman that lives in the corrupted swamp, an immortal woman known as the Swamp Daughter. We outline their story arc as together they look to understand the corruption and push into the living misery that permutates throughout the cursed biome. The party might find themselves aiding these two women, the mentor and the apprentice, as they begin the ritual to journey into the dark consciousness that pulses through the twisted plant life. It will end in tragedy as the Swamp Daughter ultimately falls to the corruption, but maybe all is not lost as she passes on the glimpses she sees before succumbing to the evil.
Moving on to Episode 10 we get to know the Father and why he is against his daughter becoming a Shaman, and the Son who is looking to become a recognized Crocodile Hunter. This is when the lore of the Mother comes into play, that she was one of the Shamans left behind, never to return. We also looked at some of the subclasses found within the tradition of the Croco Hunter.
